Getting Started

Adding Old Addresses

Add every address you have lived at for the past 5–10 years. This is the single most important thing you can do.

Why Old Addresses Matter

Data brokers don't index you by current address — they index you by your full address history. Your Spokeo profile probably lists 4 different addresses going back a decade. If we only know your current address, we will only find half the listings.

People-search sites stitch identities together using:

  • The college dorm where you lived freshman year
  • The old apartment from your first job
  • The address on a magazine subscription you forgot about
  • The address on a vehicle title from 2017
  • The address used on voter registration

Each one is a separate hit on a broker site. Each one is a separate removal target.

Privacy Benefit

Removing old addresses also breaks the chain brokers use to confirm your identity. Once a broker can't tie 3+ addresses to your name, their data quality drops and they stop selling you to advertisers.

Adding Spouse Or Family Information — DO NOT

Important legal warning: Do not add your spouse, parents, kids, or roommates without their explicit consent. They have to sign up for their own DeData account. Submitting opt-out requests on someone else's behalf without authorization is illegal under the FTC Act and several state privacy laws. Refer them to us — we have a household discount on Premium.
