Can I Protect My Child's Data?

Short answer: COPPA limits what we can do directly for under-13s, but you have real options.

Under 13

US federal law (COPPA) prohibits us from collecting personal information from anyone under 13 without verifiable parental consent. We don't accept signups from under-13s — the registration form rejects DOBs that put the user under 13.

If your child is under 13 and you find their data on a broker site, you can submit removal requests as their parent under CCPA §1798.135 and the various state equivalents. Most brokers honor parental opt-outs without question. Email us at privacy@dedatalabs.org with proof you're the parent (birth certificate or court order); we'll walk you through the manual letter flow.

Ages 13–15

We accept signups but require a parental-email verification step. The parent receives a one-time link to confirm. Until they confirm, the account stays in Pending Parental Consent state — no scans run. Once confirmed, removals proceed normally.

Ages 16+

Standard signup, full coverage. No parental consent step.

Family Plan

A formal Family Plan with up to 4 members under one billing seat is on the roadmap (Wave 2). Until it ships, the practical workaround is one paid account per family member — annoying, but the data is genuinely separate (each profile, each PII vault, each set of removals).
